HMRC calls on employers to promote tax refund checks

HMRC no longer automatically notifies PAYE employees about potential tax refunds. As a result, many individuals could be missing out on money owed to them.HMRC shas confirmed that, ‘last year, over 730,000 refunds went unclaimed, with the average refund worth £855.’

As an employer, you can play a key role in helping your team. Encourage them to check the HMRC App – it’s the fastest way to see if they have a refund due and claim it securely. Refunds are paid directly into bank accounts, often within days.

How to claim a refund via the HMRC App:

• Open the app
• Navigate to the PAYE section
• If a refund is due, a ‘Claim’ button will appear with the amount
• Click the ‘Claim’ button – the refund will be processed directly to their account.
